A week in the life of ArmourWorks...

Hundreds of school students across the country joined the working nation at the end of March for a taster of working life and what could potentially be their chosen career in several years to come. ArmourWorks had the chance to demonstrate this, as student Jack Dix; a pupil at John Kyrle High School shadowed our employees for the week.
We wanted to show Jack the importance of the subjects he currently studies, and how they are used in everyday working life. We put his Maths and English to the test by converting sums, and writing press releases’ and this is how he got on...
The Managing Director Ian Richards kicked the first day off with an overview of the company, explaining the market for high performance seats and other products within the defence industry. Day two started with a stock take in the factory, ‘‘it was not the most exciting task, but had to be done!’’ This was followed by a review of the quality process and what measurements are carried out to ensure standards are met.
The remainder of the week was spent working in the office. The tasks ranged from helping the Business Development Manager convert data from imperial to metric and create a graph in excel, to learning how to design structures using a 3D CAD tool called Solidworks by the Head of Engineering. The final day was spent with the Marketing Manager learning about why advertising and marketing is important to a business, and different marketing techniques.
Here is what Jack had to say…
‘’Reflecting on what I have learnt, I have had a great time this week. I enjoyed working within a company and completing tasks that added value to the business. I don’t think I could pick a favourite part as every sector had its qualities that could be praised. It is not an industry that you often hear about, but it contributes to the safety of others’’
